Double-disc grinding finishes two parallel faces of a part at the same time, using two opposed grinding wheels. For the right parts, it delivers flatness, parallelism, and throughput that single-side grinding can’t match.
Why grind both sides at once
Because both faces are ground simultaneously, double-disc grinding:
- Holds tight thickness and parallelism in a single operation
- Achieves very high production rates — often thousands of parts per hour on smaller components
- Reduces handling and setup versus grinding each side separately
Which parts suit it
Double-disc grinding is ideal for flat, two-sided components made in volume — compressor plates, gears, connecting rods, piston rings, washers, cutting discs, and similar parts.
Horizontal, vertical, or fine?
- Horizontal spindle (DDH): robust, high-production grinding of opposite faces.
- Vertical spindle (DDV): designed for thin components where superior flatness and finish matter.
- Fine grinder (DDF): for the tightest tolerances and finest finishes across a wide range of materials.
Is it right for you?
If your part is flat, needs both faces ground, and runs in volume, double-disc is likely the most efficient route. Share your component and volumes and we’ll advise. See the double-disc range or request a quote.
