A grinding machine is a long-term investment, and a little discipline goes a long way toward protecting both its accuracy and its lifespan. Here are five habits that make the difference.
1. Lubricate correctly and on schedule
Proper lubrication is the single most important factor in extending the life of any machine. Use the correct specification of lubricating oil and keep to a consistent lubrication schedule — don’t wait for a problem to appear.
2. Clean the table every day
Cleaning the grinding table at the end of each workday prevents rusting and protects the accuracy of the table or magnet. It takes minutes and saves expensive regrinding or re-truing later.
3. Manage your coolant
Coolant concentration and temperature affect both grinding performance and machine health. Direct coolant accurately at the grinding line to dissipate heat and prevent component distortion, and keep the concentration correct for your material and production rate.
4. Match wheel and dressing to the job
The right wheel grade, grit, and bond — properly dressed — reduce load on the spindle and keep the process stable, which reduces wear across the machine.
5. Schedule preventive maintenance
We recommend supporting your grinder throughout its lifespan with regular health checks and servicing at predetermined intervals. It promotes longer machine life and lowers the overall life-cycle cost. Alternatively, a consistent preventive and predictive maintenance routine run by your own team keeps the machine in top condition.
